Seattle Family Photos: Theo!

It’s springtime in Seattle, but a few months ago, a slightly drizzly winter day didn’t stop us from having a wonderful shoot with eighteen-month-old Theo and his family! We met at their lovely home and had such fun. Theo is such a joyful boy; we enjoyed reading, playing with the dog, snack time, and general silliness. Take a look at this exuberant little monkey and his lovely parents!

Wedding: Kate & Dan at Home in Sudbury, MA

Kate and Dan had a wonderful day wedding at their home in Sudbury – everything was absolutely gorgeous! This intimate affair included some of the most gorgeous floral arrangements I’ve ever seen, including whimsical flowers hanging on ribbons from the tree where their ceremony took place. The tents were lovely, the food was delicious, and Commodore the dog participated, too! The day started at a nearby inn where Kate prepared:

Back at the house, I photographed the rings, and a heart-shaped stone Dan made as part of his proposal to Kate. So sweet! The bouquet was pretty fabulous, as well:

The ceremony was completely unique; about seven of Kate and Dan’s closest friends all acted as “officiants,” each reading a selected passage and sharing their stories of Kate and Dan. It was such a touching, personal event, full of laughs.

While guests enjoyed some pre-lunch cocktails in the outdoor lounge area before proceeding to the tent for a delicious meal …

… Kate and Dan and I took some portraits! They are the sweetest couple, with the cutest dog, too!

The floral design was stunning. I could not stop taking photos of all the details! I want to live in these tablescapes:

And, oh, the food! Absolutely delicious. Unbelievably delicious. It really set the scene for a delightful cocktail hour and a fabulous luncheon, complete with funny and sentimental speeches galore:

Kate and Dan, thank you for having me there on your wedding day. Your laughter is still ringing in my ears!

Allegra + Ethan (+ Clover!) at Borderland State Park

I am so in love with this location (and this family!). Borderland State Park is an awesomely gorgeous place, home to the historic Ames Mansion and many paths to explore. I met Allegra, her son Ethan, and their cute dog Clover for an afternoon session there and it was so much fun to walk around the house, to the pond, and along the trails, taking photos all the while. Take a look at this photogenic family!

Everyone got their own little photoshoot, too, of course (including Clover!):

Won’t these make for some great holiday cards this year?

Thanks for having me spend the afternoon with you, Allegra and Ethan, and in such a lovely setting, too!

Sneek Peak: Kate & Dan

It started off as a bit of a rainy morning, but Kate and Dan’s backyard wedding turned into an absolutely beautiful day! And their adorable dog (in a custom-made bow tie!) was there to celebrate, too. More of this gorgeous wedding to come soon …

Engaged: James and Kim in Salem

I met up with James and Kim last weekend in Salem, and though we had to brave the wind and cold, we had a most excellent engagement shoot. They are troopers! And so in love. I had such a wonderful time spending a few hours with them, tramping around town. We started down near the water and found a bunch of great spots:

From the water, we went into town. Salem is so historic and cute – we popped into restaurants for warmth between delightful walks down cobblestone streets:

We even got their adorable dog, Bailey, to come join us!

Congratulations on your engagement, James and Kim. I can’t wait for your wedding next September!

Marvelous Max, Age 2.5

The holiday portrait fest continues! I am so lucky to spend my days with amazing kids and their loving families. This shoot took place at a park in Medford, and then back at the family’s nearby home. Boston’s glorious autumn weather is continuing well into winter here (though it’s finally starting to get chilly now …) and plenty of leaves were still strewn about, ready to tramp through. And so we did! This family knows how to have fun:

Max is the politest two-year-old I’ve ever encountered. I was so impressed with the abundance of pleases and thank yous and excuse mes! Mom and dad have done an excellent job with this young man.

The boy really loves his dog, too, which is always sweet to see:

Happy holidays!

Boozer the Yorkie – Pet Photography

I am an animal lover, as evidenced by my two enormous cats, Milton and Agnes, my penchant for zoos, and habit of petting everything on four legs that goes by. Growing up we always had a dog and two cats at a time, sometimes more. Animals and I get along well, so I was happy to hear that our good friends in New York had just gotten a Yorkie puppy before our recent visit.

Meet Boozer:

This little sweetie is currently only two pounds! His full-grown size will max out between four and five pounds, but don’t let his smallness fool you: this dude is energetic! He jumps as high as his teeny legs will allow and loves to explore his new apartment.

The Booze is also a snuggler, nestling into any lap that will have him. I do love a good snuggle myself, so we had a lot of quality couch time together.

Of course, I could not help but put Boozer through his first professional photo shoot during our visit. He was quite cooperative after we got some energy out and he managed to sit still for a few moments here and there!

I really enjoyed putting him on pillows and different couches and blankets (and in a decorative bowl on the coffee table) – it’s too hilarious to isolate him on a surface because he can’t quite figure out how to get off or down or where he wants to go. He’s just too tiny to manage it!

I didn’t torture him for too long, though, and rewarded him with his favorite puppy treats afterward, too.

Isn’t he too cute? Have fun with your new owners, Boozer – they love you to pieces!

See you again soon, darling pup!

Newborn Photoshoot, Starring: Casey and Emma

Last week I did my very first newborn photoshoot. Little Casey was only seven days old and so so so tiny! She cooperated amazingly well, as did big sister Emma. They are such the darling pair of girls and I felt so lucky to peek into their lives for the morning.

For babies this small, a home visit is a must. Casey was warm and comfy in her adorable little outfits or swathed in blankets. I love how everything in a newborn’s environment is soft and comfortable!

With babies and kids, you want to capture them as they are, because as they are is just perfect. I do hardly any positioning or directing of kids because it’s just not necessary (and they usually won’t listen anyway!).

Emma is a very sweet big sister; at only twenty months, she’s really taken to her new sibling well.

Though, she likes the dog just as much 🙂

I was only with the family for an hour, but managed to get quite a few nice shots. I suppose with such angelic subjects, it was inevitable!

Then there are the shots the parents might not love, but I do: the crying shots. There is something sweet and universal about a crying child, and two crying children together? That’s life!

I really hope to do more newborn and kid shoots as I progress in my career; capturing these special days is so priceless and such a privilege. I can’t think of anything more fun for a baby-lover like me!
