I took Augie’s 18 month photos while we vacationed on the Olympic Peninsula. He loved the beach, the woods and “hiking” (i.e. walking on a little path to a clearing), and blueberry picking. There must be an innate foraging instinct within us; Augs was a natural in the blueberry fields and ate more than he put in our bucket. At a year and a half, his great love is being outdoors, matched only by reading books. His language is incredible – he says hundreds of words and phrases and can follow instructions to the letter (though he doesn’t always choose to!). And … his hair has gotten curly! Here he is!

A 90th birthday brunch, what a privilege! The very elegant Mrs. Kramer celebrated the milestone with a lovely brunch at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California. Surrounded by her family, including six great-grandchildren, she is an inspiration. Congratulations, Mrs. Kramer!
The oldest and youngest Kramer women: Emily – 15 months, Lorraine – 1,080 months.
When I was home in California for Thanksgiving, I couldn’t help but do a few photographic sessions (of course!). One of them was an afternoon with the wonderful Diego and his parents. We had planned on a bright park and beach extravaganza, but the weather did not support our sun-drenched hopes … instead, we got a very magical dense fog that lent a completely different feeling to our photos! It was an interesting change of pace, and certainly not what one thinks where Southern California is concerned, but we do have our foggy days, especially near the beach!
Without further ado, here is the exuberant, funny, adorable Diego, having a great time in Rustic Canyon with his folks:
Grandma got to participate, too! So sweet.
The beach at Station #8 was really cool – you could barely see the ocean with the fog.
It’s great to have clients everywhere I go! Thanks, Diego, for letting me hang out on such a unique day!
Amidst wedding madness and taking in the view, Tyler and I spent a day at Vizcaya while we were in Miami. Vizcaya is now a museum, but was once the estate of industrial bajillionaire James Deering in the early part of the 20th century. The mansion is incredible; it was built to look old and monied even when it was new. Unfortunately, interior photographs were not allowed, but I took full advantage of photographing the grounds with their endless gardens and seaside promenades.
We arrived at Vizcaya on the Miami metro (very convenient) and traversed a covered walkway across the highway before entering a wilderness of greenery. It was like entering another world:
There was lots of rustling in the forest as we walked a winding path to the estate – it turned out to be hundreds of little lizards!
Tyler and I had our own little photoshoot throughout our visit to Vizcaya – the estate was too gorgeous not to. I just so happened to be wearing the perfect color to coordinate with the pink stone throughout the gardens!
The ocean front of the main house looks out onto a beautiful bay; a stone barge sits about twenty feet off shore and can be accessed on foot during low tide. How romantic!
An orchid garden abuts the main house and statuary is everywhere:
While we were touring the grounds, we saw no fewer than three quinceñera photoshoots taking place and one wedding portrait session and you can see why! Of course Vizcaya is the go-to location for a beautiful photo setting. I would LOVE to shoot portraits of any kind here. It is just so lovely! I highly recommend a visit to anyone and everyone coming through Miami.

I’m so excited to share this wedding with you today, you have no idea! Why, you ask? Well, Laura (the bride) is an avid Crystal Blue Weddings reader and she and I corresponded throughout her planning process. The wedding planner in me just loves the whole process and seeing it all come together (beautifully) in the end. Plus, after it all, I feel like we’re friends and I just love when my friends get married!!
Let’s start at the beginning…
When the guests arrived to Grand Cayman, they were greeted with a welcome bag full of goodies!
Good start, right?? The couple and their guests enjoyed a welcome dinner at Hemingways just a few steps down the beach from Caribbean Club and of course a few days of lounging on the stunning Seven Mile Beach!
Moving on to the wedding day, Laura and Sacha exchanged vows on the pristine beach of the Caribbean Club followed by dinner and dancing at LUCA.
The clean white color palatte with pops of teal and green really made a beautiful combination for this day!
Gorgeous letterpress menus…dying. You guys know how I feel about stationery and that color–we are destined for each other!
Congratulations Laura and Sacha! Thank you SO much for allowing us to share your day and we wish nothing but the best for you!

Nate and Isa’s wedding in a word? GORGEOUS. Take a look at this duo and it’s the first word that comes to mind:
But before I get into too many portraits, let’s go in order here. First, the details and the preparations for this lovely beachside ceremony at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort in Sunny Isles Beach, right north of Miami, in Florida.
Isa put so much thought into all the details – not just her beautiful personal effects, but throughout the whole day. I loved all her accessories and the decor!
Before we knew it, it was ceremony time!
Isn’t it all too lovely? We took a few more photographs on the beach as the sun went down. Being from the West Coast, I’m used to very bright sunsets over the ocean, but I loved the painterly quality of light we saw on the Atlantic with the sun setting behind us and the hotel.
From the beach we moved into the hotel for a cocktail reception in the spa, and then a reception in the ballroom.
The dancing was incredible!
At some point in the evening, we decided to sneak outside and try a few photos with sparklers. It was crazy out there in the pitch dark on the beach, but we didn’t do too badly, huh? And Isa’s ring is just out of this world.
It was an incredible day and I feel so lucky to be friends with such a wonderful couple. Thanks for having me there, Nate and Isa!
I met up with James and Kim last weekend in Salem, and though we had to brave the wind and cold, we had a most excellent engagement shoot. They are troopers! And so in love. I had such a wonderful time spending a few hours with them, tramping around town. We started down near the water and found a bunch of great spots:
From the water, we went into town. Salem is so historic and cute – we popped into restaurants for warmth between delightful walks down cobblestone streets:
We even got their adorable dog, Bailey, to come join us!
Congratulations on your engagement, James and Kim. I can’t wait for your wedding next September!
When I’m home for the holidays, we do stuff like … have impromptu photoshoots all over the place! My sisters can’t help themselves:
We’re supposed to be taking a holiday photo, but most of our takes come out like this:
Bless Tyler, he is such a good sport and doesn’t even blink in the midst of our particular brand of madness. He just goes along with it all…
We take our little brother miniature golfing, and he loves it! Right?
Tyler eats Mexican food everywhere we go, even Cafe 50’s. Little brother learns about high-volume eating from Tyler:
We take pictures at the pier, at the pier’s carousel, and under the pier. Just because.
Tyler runs from our house to the pier to meet us (he’s very good at still getting exercise on vacation):
My mom is beautiful:
AND, if anyone wants a signed print of my sister looking AMAZING in her Disneyland cast member’s outfit right before she goes to work, please let me know in the comments. She’s willing to sign a limited number for your pure unadulterated enjoyment!
I love going home for the holidays (and other days, too!)!
